Carr Manor Primary school, Leeds, UK

This project was part of the Basic Need programme for schools in UK. We developed it to meet the need for a new primary school building to accommodate 206 pupils in the Carr Manor road area, north of Leeds, UK. The school design embraced the nearby high school forming a campus that allows children to transition from the primary school to the high school more seamlessly. Design elements included external classrooms, daylight, natural ventilation and internal comfort environment: insulation, temperature and acoustics. All these components were linked to the number of occupants and tailored to their age. This was a very interesting project that included specifics, such as a strict budget, ground overflows and highways requirements. As the team leader of this project I enjoyed to follow the development of the project from the design stage up to the school’s handover and occupancy. The key personal outcome was the great difference this building made to the lives of the children and their families from the surrounding area.
